From outdoor shopping to parks, Round Rock comes alive in the spring when the temperatures begin to warm up and the first signs of summer peek through the clouds. Some winters are quite mild while others are filled with terrible weather and one thing is certain: it’s easy to appreciate the weather in the spring before it becomes too hot and when the time change gives us more time for daylight fun in the evenings after work or school.
If you’re new to Round Rock this spring, here are a few activities you may want to consider around your Rocking Horse Ranch apartment.
If You Have Kids, Visit Play for All Park
Filled with playgrounds, grassy areas, and cool features like a miniature downtown, Play for All Park is a great place to visit. Located at 151 N A W Grimes Blvd, the park is appropriate for kids aged two to 12. The park features equipment and experiences designed for special needs kids, but the playground atmosphere and are terrific fun for just about any child who loves climbing on monkey bars and horsing around.
According to the official city website, there are loads of parks and trails surrounding Round Rock that you can enjoy in the spring:
“Round Rock has more than 30 developed parks gracing over 1700 acres and trail corridors. Old Settlers Park is the crown jewel, offering a generous 645 acres of rolling countryside for local events and festivals. Round Rock offers specialty parks including the Dog Depot Dog Park, the Play for All Abilities Park, Downtown Plazas, and the Shaylah Dame Skate Park.”
You can probably spend most of the spring exploring the city’s many parks, and then enjoy some summer days on the 20 miles of trails that wind their way through Round Rock.
Spend a Warm Day at Rock ‘N River Water Park
Although it won’t open until late May (which is still spring, technically), you’ll want to spend a day at Rock ‘N River Water Park as soon as a hot day rolls around. When it’s blisteringly hot in the summer, the park can get pretty crowded, so an excellent time to visit the park is in the late spring when it first opens.
The city government reveals that the park has recently undergone a major expansion:
“The expansion includes a huge Sprayground Play Unit that includes 51 play features. Play features include down jets, hose jets, tipping cone, water curtain, water guns, water slides and net obstacles. This unit alone nearly doubles the existing Rock N River pool capacity with 6,650 sq. ft. of play room with the capacity of approximately 550 guests.”
Other additions include a jumping platform, climbing wall, and a drop slide. You can even rent one of the park’s cabanas if you’re attending with friends or have a picnic at the appropriately named picnic pavilion.
